Season 2, Episode 11: Breaking Up with Birth Control
Birth control is all too often prescribed as the band-aid fix for many women’s health issues: endometriosis, acne, menopause, period pain, PCOS, PMS, irregular cycles, heavy flow…the list goes on.
But what if birth control hurts more than it helps? Bianca Pennington, a women’s health + fertility coach, found that out the hard way. After switching from the pill to the Depo shot to an IUD, the side effects from contraceptive medications significantly impacted her physical, emotional + mental wellbeing. So she gave her body a rest, learned how to track its natural cycles and now teaches other women how to do the same.
In this episode, Bianca shares her story plus:
- the concept of “post-birth control syndrome”
- why ovulation is important for your overall health
- how certain types of birth control can cause hormonal imbalances + acne
- steps you can take to help your body heal after birth control
- why balancing blood sugar reduces stress in the body
