San Diego's First Mobile Reformer Pilates Studio Makes its Debut

The Drift Method is rolling up to your vacation rental, your bachelorette, your hotel stay with eight reformers, one van, and a founder who believes wellness should meet you where you are.

San Diego has no shortage of wellness professionals willing to come to you: mobile IV drips, massage therapists, personal trainers, yoga instructors for your private bachelorette are all pretty commonplace. But one thing had never made it to your doorstep: a full reformer Pilates class. That changes with the Drift Method Pilates, the first-of-its-kind luxury mobile reformer studio, founded by longtime Pilates instructor Raeah Clark.

The concept is simple and, once you hear it, obvious. Clark loads eight foldable Core Collab reformers into a van, drives to wherever you are — a vacation rental, a hotel, a private residence — sets up, and leads class.

The idea that started on a bachelorette trip

The origin story is fittingly festive. Clark was at her own bachelorette party in wine country Texas when she encountered Brooke’s Bubble Bus, a now-massive fleet of hot-pink touring buses that started with a single old limo. The branding was unmissable, the business model was elegant, and something clicked.

"I've been teaching Pilates for a long time, I've run studios, I've been in the industry — this could be the next thing," Clark shares. "Not only for bachelorette parties, but also, why compromise your workout and your well-being when you're traveling? When you're at a hotel for a week with the kiddos visiting Legoland?"

So she went home and Googled it. Almost nothing came up aside from one COVID-era operation in Virginia that had a semi-truck with a single reformer inside – not quite a group fitness experience. The business lane was wide open.

The method behind the drift

Clark has been training and teaching for years, and got into Pilates specifically while training for marathons. She credits the practice with keeping her injury-free through long training blocks while delivering the strength work she needed without the monotony of a conventional gym. That background shapes what she brings to class.

"I like to blend a more athletic reformer style — lots of add-ons, not as classical a setup," she explains. "But I've been training classical, so I kind of blend that too. You're there for 45, 50 minutes. You're getting a great workout, but you're also having a more mindful blend."

Every class opens and closes with stretching and breathwork. For many clients, Clark notes, this will be the only hour they get to fully take time for themselves, and she treats it accordingly. Custom playlists are part of the package, as are aromatherapy towels during the cool-down stretch.

Built for celebrations and tourists

While the Drift Method is perfectly suited for tourists who don't want to hunt down a studio mid-trip, Clark has quickly discovered that group events are a natural fit. Birthday and bachelorette parties are a clear sweet spot, and she's already booking them out. This July, she has a group of 15 coming — too many for a single class — so she's splitting them into two back-to-back sessions.

Other add-ons currently include a mocktail and juice bar, as well as branded grip socks that can be customized for the occasion. Mat Pilates is also available for larger groups where reformers alone can't cover everyone.

Right now, Clark is the sole instructor and every class is hers. But she's already thinking bigger. "I would like to have a fleet — that's where I could see this going," she says. "Get more instructors. Because that's also part of wellness: finding the instructor you resonate with, and wanting to be with them."
