San Diego's dining scene is about to get a little more mystical. The Zodiac Table Series — a new monthly ritual dinner where astrology, experimental Mexican cuisine, and sacred ceremony meet—debuts this month at Alchemy: Choose Thy Poison, the vibrant Mexican-fusion restaurant in Logan Heights.
Alchemy's Eduardo "Eddy" Cortes has teamed up with Modern Mystic and holistic interior designer Rachel Larraine Crawford to create an intimate 16-seat gathering designed to nourish both spirit and senses. "The series was inspired by Eddy's reconnection to spirituality and my own work with ritual gatherings," explains Crawford. "The Zodiac Table is where our worlds meet—creating an unforgettable cosmic dining experience.”
More Than a Meal
Each month, the experience draws inspiration from the zodiac season, infusing both the menu and ceremonial elements with its unique energy. The inaugural dinner on Sunday, August 24 takes place under the Virgo New Moon and the evening will begin with a grounding sound bath to center the gathering. Then, at the start of each of the dinner's four courses, a new tarot card is will be pulled to offer insight and reflection. The night will close with each guest sealing a handwritten intention alongside a tarot card, to be revealed at a future moment of their choosing.
The Astrologically-Inspired Menu
Each month expect dishes infused with healing herbs, inspirational flavors, and intricate detail, paired with an exclusive herbal punchbowl made only for this unique dinner series. The inaugural dinner will celebrate Virgo, the Earth sign of clarity, devotion, and sacred service, through "grounded" vegetables like corn and beets, as well as other seasonal elements.
- Course I – Clarity: Crema de Elote y Poblano — roasted corn and poblano soup with pepitas, blue corn chips, ancho chile dust, and queso fresco.
- Course II – Balance: Tostada de Betabel Asado — roasted beets, avocado, salsa macha, queso panela cream, and microgreens on a crispy tostada.
- Course III – Integration: Tetelas de Pato y Mole de la Tierra — masa tetelas filled with duck confit over ash-infused mole, with charred habanero jocoque, herb salad, and toasted sesame.
- Course IV – Devotion: Tarta Verde de Intención — pistachio ricotta cake with chamomile whipped cream and citrus zest.
- The Punchbowl Ritual – Aliento de Tierra: A shared herbal punch blends nopal, hoja santa, chamomile, and citrus. Served spirit-free to start, each guest can choose to add tequila, mezcal, or sotol to transform their drink as part of a personal ritual.
The Zodiac Table Series illustrates that food can be more than sustenance. Community and intentional ritual can also be food for the soul.
