San Diego is stepping into a new era of collective climate action. From October 1–8, the region will host its first-ever San Diego Climate Week (SDCW) — a countywide, weeklong movement uniting residents, businesses, nonprofits, artists, scientists, educators, and policymakers around climate education, resilience, and action.

With more than 100 events scheduled throughout the week, there’s something for everyone to engage in, from community walks and guided meditations to film screenings, workshops, art installations, beach cleanups, and policy panels. The spirit of SDCW is inclusivity: creating space for all San Diegans, across neighborhoods and backgrounds, to take meaningful steps toward a healthier, more sustainable future.
Why Climate Week, Why Now
San Diego is on the frontlines of climate change. Extreme heat, rising sea levels, worsening air quality, and environmental injustice are already reshaping daily life. Over the past year alone, the county has endured fires, floods, and heavy air and sea pollution. Frontline communities — those most impacted by these changes — often carry the heaviest burdens yet are left out of decision-making.
As the most biologically diverse county in the continental U.S. and home to the largest coastal wetland in Southern California, San Diego has both a responsibility and an opportunity to lead. SDCW seeks to bridge fragmented efforts into a unified, community-powered movement.
Official Kickoff Event: Wednesday, October 1st
The week officially begins on Wednesday, October 1st, 5:00-8:00pm with Cycling Towards Cleaner Air, hosted by BikeSD at the Mingei Museum in Balboa Park.
The evening starts with a community bike ride and transitions into a panel discussion featuring regional leaders, including:
- Danielle Moore, Commissioner, Port of San Diego
- Shelby Rust Buso, Chief Sustainability Officer, City of San Diego
- Carter Rubin, Director of State Transportation Advocacy, NRDC
- Jennifer Williamson, Deputy Director of Mobility Planning, SANDAG
- Moderated by Keala Rusher, Outreach Manager, BikeSD
Panelists will explore solutions for building a healthier, more breathable future for all San Diegans. Plus, attendees who bike, walk, or take public transit will be entered into a raffle for a free e-bike.
