This summer, young adults in San Diego + South Bay have a unique opportunity to step into leadership, build real-world skills, and make an impact in their communities. Lead With U, a free 10-week learning hub organized by the Institute for Public Strategies (IPS), invites young adults ages 16 to 26 to explore the worlds of mental health, public health, and community advocacy—no previous experience required.

Led by public health professionals, board-certified doctors, Emmy Award winners, and community advocates, this immersive program isn’t your average summer class. Through hands-on activities, group discussions, and optional field trips, participants will uncover how public health intersects with everyday life—from navigating mental health and wellness to understanding how systems and policies shape the communities we live in.
The program is especially ideal for youth who are curious about health-related careers but aren’t sure where to begin. In addition to deepening their understanding of health and wellness, participants will also gain:
- Critical leadership and advocacy skills
- Community service hours
- Personalized letters of recommendation (upon request)
Sessions run weekly on Friday evenings and are approximately two hours long. Most meetings will be held virtually, with the first and last sessions happening in person for community connection. And while there’s no cost to join, organizers are asking for a full commitment to attend all sessions in order to get the most out of the experience.
Lead With U is open to ages 16 -26 and registration closes Wednesday, July 9 at 5:00pm.
