Like many yoga instructors, Christina Daley had to find alternative ways to teach when the pandemic hit in 2020. “I was previously managing another local yoga studio and I lost my job. I really wanted to create something for the future,” Daley shares. “We were all livestreaming then but one of the main feedback from our students was that they wanted to connect with their favorite instructors but they didn't know where to find them.”
So Daley gathered 22 other local yoga instructors together and started Asteya Live, an online yoga class platform. “Asteya means ‘non-stealing' in Sanskrit,” Daley explains. “All of us have a light within each of us. It's common for us to have our light dimmed because of our fear of putting ourselves out there. But when we do that, we're ‘stealing' our light from ourselves and the world.”
Now Daley and her team of instructors are able to provide in-person classes at their new yoga/fitness studio, Asteya Collective, which opened in Encinitas in December 2021.

Asteya Collective also offers Kids' Yoga each weekday from 3:30-4:30pm. “Kids are really suffering through all of this, they have been through so much,” Daley shares. “So we created a class for kids to share and connect with others.” The Kids' Yoga class includes breathing exercises, affirmations, gratitude, movement and stillness.
Daley hopes to continue to expand Asteya Collective's class offerings to include a class in Spanish, offer self-love building workshops for the community, provide space for recovery group meetings, teacher trainings, retreats, kids' camps and more. “We do this for our community. We are asking for feedback constantly,” Daley says.
