Day Trip: Vegan Food + Beach Spots on the 101

Day Trip: Vegan Food + Beach Spots on San Diego’s Hwy 101

We’ve rounded up some of our favorite vegan food hot spots on San Diego County Highway 101. Rent an e-bike or pedal a cruiser up the coast and make a day of it!

Take a day trip through Solana Beach and Encinitas via US Route 101, aka Pacific Coast Highway, and fuel your day with delicious vegan food + plant-based eats as you experience San DIego surf culture, sea and sand.

Start: Drive to Solana Beach along the 101 to our first stop. Or, rent a electric bike or scooter from one of these friendly bike/surf rental shops in Solana Beach:

San Diego Electric Bike

Choice Juicery

Solana Beach

437 Hwy 101, #118, Solana Beach, CA 92075

Start with the right fuel for the day with breakfast from Choice Juicery. Everything on the menu is gluten free, dairy free and plant based.

Favorites include the Spicy Armor smoothie (almond milk, date, banana, maca, cinnamon, nutmeg, cayenne, cacao) and the gluten-free “Suntana” Toast, avocado “pâté” with a cashew “cheesy” drizzle and a fresh leafy green salad on the side.

Fletcher Cove Beach Park

Solana Beach

111 S. Sierra, Solana Beach, CA 92075

Grab your plant-based, vegan breakfast and head down to Fletcher Cove for a quick swim or walk on the beach. Kids can enjoy the small playground while you rest and watch the waves.

Ki’s Restaurant

2591 S. Coast Hwy, Cardiff, CA

Pedal up the coast for ocean view dining at Ki’s Restaurant, a local favorite since 1997. Ki’s offers gluten-free, vegetarian/vegan food menu options for breakfast, lunch and dinner.

Menu highlights: Butternut Squash & Corn Enchilada, Fajitas, and Spicy Nomnam Bowl with Thai peanut sauce and rice noodles.

Cardiff State Beach

Located one mile south of Cardiff on Old Highway 101.

After lunch, head across the street to enjoy the waves at Cardiff Reef, a sandy beach offering swimming, surfing and beachcombing. Since it’s a popular surf spot, the parking lot can be quite busy so you may need to look for parking on the 101.
