La Jolla's newest wellness space, Planted Studio, is now blooming at the corner of Girard and Pearl in the heart of the village.
Following the success of Roam Homeware's flagship Bird Rock showroom, the team behind the beloved design destination has opened Planted by Roam in the heart of La Jolla Village, a plant-filled retail concept that blends global biophilic decor and wellness-inspired landscape design services.
Now, they're taking that vision one step further with the launch of Planted Studio, a new movement and wellness event space inside the store that transforms into a Pilates and wellness studio before and after retail hours. For founder Elyse Clark, the concept emerged naturally from the way people were already interacting with their spaces.
"We've noticed that people really gravitate toward our spaces and want to spend time in them," says Clark. "We’ve been asked a number of times to host events so we finally opened up the studio before and after hours to become a wellness community space."
Planted by Roam in La Jolla Village is the sister shop of Roam Homeware, a 4,000-square-foot showroom in Bird Rock built on Elyse's years of living and traveling abroad. After finishing high school, she spent time living in multiple countries, collecting one-of-a-kind vintage furniture and décor pieces that she eventually began importing and selling. The name "Roam" was intentional, and it stuck.
That same spirit now shapes Planted by Roam, a home décor store and a landscape design studio specializing in "wellness landscapes,” outdoor environments that incorporate elements such as gardens, fountains, fire features, and custom wellness amenities designed to encourage relaxation and restoration.
"It’s a fusion of two identities," Trevor Longmore, the lead horticulturist at Planted by Roam, explains. "The first is Elyse’s travels. She was roaming around the world, bringing back these really cool, unique vintage pieces you see in the store today. My background is in science. I studied ornamental horticulture and sports turf science, working on golf courses and various plant-focused projects. So inside here, it’s the plants, the planters, and the water features from around the world. Everything is one-of-a-kind."

After a successful run of Pilates pop-ups, art shows and monthly markets at the Roam Homeware flagship in Bird Rock, offering similar community programming at the La Jolla sister shop felt like a natural evolution. The open, plant-filled space, with its grounding aesthetic and sensory calm, practically asks to be activated.
"Our fountains create a very therapeutic sound—a soft little touch in a landscape," says Longmore. "When you look at the wellness component [of design], the therapeutic aspect, and then intertwine that with movement, flow, and exercise, it comes full circle as a holistic lifestyle brand."
So they opened it up. Planted Studio now operates before and after store hours, offering mat Pilates with board (mini board) Pilates classes. The studio also has movement workshops, matcha workshops, and other wellness-minded community events in the pipeline, with multiple instructors reaching out to bring their offerings into the space.
"We're so fortunate that we have this big open space in the heart of La Jolla," Clark says. "So why not share it?"
Keep an eye on their programming, and when you visit, plan to stay awhile. That's kind of the whole point.
